Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman, born May 25 1994 born on May 25, 1994, is an American retired artistic gymnast. She has also been two-time Olympian. She was the American women's Olympic gymnastics team captain for both the 2012 and 2016 "Fierce Five" U.S. teams. She also won a team gold medal during the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Gabby Douglas and Raisman are the only Americans to have two consecutive gold medals from this event. Raisman also earned silver in the individual all around and floor exercises. She is the third-most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history, behind Shannon Miller and Simone Biles and has won six Olympic medals.Raisman was also a part of the gold-winning American teams at the 2011 and 2015 World Championships, and the world bronze medalist on floor exercise in the year 2011. She also is the two-time national champion in floor exercise (2012,2015), the 2012 national champion of balance beam and five-time medalist at the national championships for all around (silver in 2016 and silver in 2011, 2012 (2012), and in 2013 and 2015). In 2013, she was inducted into International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was born on the 25th of May, 1994, in the Boston suburb of Needham, Massachusetts, to Lynn (nee Faber), an ex-high school gymnast as well as Rick Raisman. There are three sisters younger than her: Madison, Chloe, and Brett. Raisman, who is Jewish, has stated that she is very proud in her ability to represent the American people, but as well as the Jewish community all over the world. Raisman began gymnastics at the age of 18 months. She attributes her love of gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", an American women's group that won the gold medal in the 1996 Summer Olympics. The athlete trained at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing up to Level 8, and then transferred to Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club, where she was trained by Silvia Brestyan and Mihai Brestyan. Raisman graduated from Needham High School in 2012, after completing her senior year through online classes while training for the Olympics.
